When it comes to chiropractic care, there is a lot of misinformation out there. If you have started to do research on chiropractic care, you may have come across some pretty inaccurate statements. Let us clear up some of the most common chiropractic care myths.

Myth: A chiropractor is not a real doctor.

This is like saying a dentist is not a real doctor because you don’t visit him when you have a cold. While the conventional view of a doctor is someone that prescribes pills and operates, a chiropractor has just as much training and knowledge, but treats ailments in an alternative, non-invasive way. A chiropractor focuses his studies on the spine and how the body and certain ailments relate to the skeletal system.

Myth: Chiropractic services are only for adults.

Chiropractic care and wellness adjustments are beneficial for everyone. Newborns to senior citizens have all benefited from having a properly adjusted spine.

Myth: Chiropractic care will only help to alleviate back pain.

While it is true that chiropractic care is great for back pain, it can also be beneficial for other ailments. Chiropractic care focuses on fixing subluxations and aligning the spine. When the spine is working properly, the rest of the body can work properly. This is why many people use chiropractic care for their headaches, arthritis, and more.

Myth: Chiropractic care is way too expensive.

Some chiropractors charge an arm and a leg. It’s true. However, there are many other chiropractors that are affordable or have monthly rates. Of course, chiropractic care is going to come with a cost. You have to decide if that cost is worth getting rid of your pain. Also, remember that paying for chiropractic care now can help save you money in the future on surgery and prescription drugs.  The Joint offers affordable treatment for everyone.

Myth: A wellness adjustment is painful.

This is just not true. Most individuals come in with pain and leave feeling better. Wellness adjustments are gentle and non-invasive. The adjustment will release the pressure and irritation on the nerve, which is causing you pain. Some individuals may experience slight discomfort, especially if it is their first time. The experience can be likened to getting a massage, though wellness adjustments are very quick.

Myth: I only have to go once.

Think of the chiropractor as the dentist. You don’t go to the dentist once and expect your teeth to be perfect after your initial visit. Instead, it is recommended you go twice a year to keep your teeth and gums healthy and clean. The same goes for a chiropractor. Regular and consistent treatments will keep you healthy.

The reality is that you probably have poor posture, sit in an uncomfortable chair, sleep in an uncomfortable bed, and perhaps pick heavy things up the wrong way. Over time, these bad habits will cause you pain and problems in the spine. A chiropractor can help relieve the pain and problems through a wellness adjustment. The number of times you have to see a chiropractor is based on your condition and preference.

Understanding the facts about chiropractic care can help you decide if chiropractic care is the right choice for you. It can provide overall health benefits that are able to improve your entire quality of life.
